Let’s examine the stages of creating a collection together.

Fashion, in its most general definition, is a temporary innovation that entered the life of society. Generally, the changes seen in the fashion industry are easier and more economical than other fields. Products are determined periodically and fashion designers prepare collections for certain seasons. The designer has to follow certain stages in preparing an original and trendy collection.

Collection Planning

The first stage of a collection is the idea stage. Research is done in this process. Sample ideas are developed, collection math is created, and mood boards are prepared. Then the Range plan is prepared. Range plan is a method used to learn purchasing plan and purchasing budget, pricing, distribution and sales forecasts. Thus, a specific goal and theme emerges.

Briefing

This briefing contains important details received from the client to start the design. A well-prepared brief form must answer the important questions about the collection details in the best way possible.

When you start designing a new collection, you need to set the ideas free in your mind. At this point, a brief form could be an inspiration for some good ideas. In the next stage, you need to correctly follow the business process to create a collection in your dreams.

Research Process

The research process is the basic stage for all creative design processes. The research process is an important process that almost corresponds to 50% of the design process. You can use the internet for your research. You can watch runway shows on YouTube and do a literature review on fashion books. You can check historical books and art history about the topic. Since the collection topic in Safari, you can watch Safari-themed documentaries and make it easy to come up with ideas. In fact, the research stage should be a long process. This way, you can come up with new ideas.

Fabric Research

When you choose the fabrics to prepare a collection, you need to consider the seasonal properties. We will use fall and autumn-themed fabrics for this collection. Additionally, you can consider the fabric trends in international fashion shows and fairs.

The selected fabric should be fashionable. Also, it is important to work with a fabric that works well with the models, easily producible, functional and reach high sales rates. With basic fabrics approved by the designer and client, you can use various fabric and design samples to increase the possibility to enter different markets.

Accessories Research

In design, accessory selection and accessory use on design are as important as fabric selection. In cloth design, the details such as belt, button, zipper, applique, shoulder padding, bird’s eye, snap fasteners are accessories for easy use. Additionally, you can use functional and decoration materials such as beads, sequin, spangle, gems, metallic and wooden ornaments, different coloured tapes, lace, handmade flowers, beads, faux fur, fringe etc.

Moodboard

Moodboard is the inspiration board we prepared for the subject we chose. In this panel, we bring together images, fabrics and colors related to the subject we have chosen. And we determine which aspects of the design to focus on. When creating a Moodboard, you need to pay attention to consistent images and text to explain the subject as a whole. To ensure completeness, you can consider color tones and perspectives in the images. Each collection has a certain focus. Working in many different styles creates confusion. When preparing the moodboard, pay attention to your focal point.

Sketching

Design sketches are created by taking inspiration from the moodboard created in this section. Then the selected pieces are prepared technically and artistically.

Let’s prepare a safari theme-related mood board in this section of the training. When you prepare a Moodboard, you need to be careful about coherent images and texts to explain the topic as a whole. You can consider colour tones and perspectives in the visuals to ensure unity.
